Where is Cascade Camp Cedarbrook?
Our site, named Camp Koinonia (meaning "fellowship") is located near Cle Elum in central Washington. The camp is 1.5 hours from Seattle and 3 hours from Spokane. The camp address is: Cedarbrook at Camp Koinonia, 850 Camp Koinonia Lane, Cle Elum, WA 98922. Directions to Camp Koinonia can be found in the Cedarbrook Clue.
What will my child be doing at camp?
Our camp day begins with flag raising, breakfast, and our individual morning devotions. The middle of the day includes three activity periods (activities your camper has chosen at the beginning of the week), a cabin Bible study time, cabin clean up (capers), kickback time (rest period after lunch) and free time (during which your child can choose from a variety of active or restful choices such as swimming, crafts, boating or a visit to the camp store). After dinner the day concludes with an evening largegroup activity, a campfire program, and devotions before lights out.
Can I phone my child or have my child phone me?
As we live in a culture that is permeated with communication, we seldom have the time to fully listen to the companions we are with, to spend quiet time alone in thought, and to listen to the still, soft voice of God. At Cedarbrook, giving up our technology (including phone calls) for one week is our way to create a special space where listening, quiet time, and spiritual sensitivity are excitingly possible.
If you have concerns and want to check on how your child is doing, you may contact our registrar during the camp week and she can have the camper's counselor or division director return your call with an update on your child. We also update our Facebook page regularly with daily camp information and photos. We encourage parents and friends to use our camper email system, Bunk1 to send frequent notes to your child at camp.
Can my child with special medical, developmental or dietary needs attend camp
As each child is unique, our registrar and director would be happy to work with you to find out how we can best serve your family. We have a nurse on site that administers all camper medications and our kitchen can often accommodate some dietary restrictions.
Important considerations are: how the camp schedule is different than the schedule your child is accustomed to; if the camp menu includes the foods your child needs with alternatives to foods your child may be allergic to; if your child can reliably respond to verbal commands in safety situations; in some situations, if a parent or familiar caregiver can accompany your child at camp.
